Maison ARLO is located on the edge of the small Eifel village of Sassen (approx. 80 inhabitants) at around 600 meters above sea level on the slope of an extinct volcano. Surrounded by a garden with a orchard, the apartment is south facing and offers a beautiful distant view. We converted the old quarry stone barn into a holiday apartment in 2015 - 2017 and is part of a listed building ensemble. Only ecological building materials such as clay, historic lime plaster and woods from the region were used in the renovation.
On the ground floor, the living room and kitchen have wall heating, which emits very cozy radiant heat. On the upper floor there are two bedrooms with oak flooring. The rooms are modern with some design classics and finds from the old barn. The bathroom on the ground floor has a floor-level shower. The apartment has a WiFi connection.
Otherwise, we deliberately avoided bells and whistles. There is no television, but there is a radio, a little travel and hiking reading, and fiction for rainy days. The kitchen offers everything except a dishwasher.
The yard entrance can be used for loading and unloading. There is a public parking space below Maison ARLO where the car can be parked. Access to the apartment is through the garden via the street "Sommergarten".
The Vulkaneifel is an excellent hiking area with well-marked trails. Several hiking trails lead through the village. The landscape offers distant views and wonderful views. There is a mild, stimulating climate at the 600 meters of altitude.
One of the most beautiful Eifel villages, the picturesque Monreal, can be hiked from Sassen in one day. The source of the Elz rises near the village and winds gently up to the Moselle. On the Elz are the castles of Pyrmont and the most impressive, still fully preserved medieval castle: Burg Eltz.
Not far away are the Daun Maare, extinct crater lakes where you can swim in summer. Daun is the next largest city with all shopping and refreshments.
Otherwise there are shops in Kelberg (supermarket, butcher, bakery) or Ulmen (7 km) or Boos 9 km away. There you will find a small country bakery and an organic farm shop. At the weekend there is the possibility to have bread delivered to you.
