Sie ist bis heute in Privatbesitz, steht unter Denkmalschutz, und viele halten sie für die schönste Jugendherberge Deutschlands. Von Anfang an war sie nicht nur ein Dach für Einzelwanderer, Gruppen und Schulklassen, sondern eine internationale Jugend-, Kultur- und Begegnungsstätte von großer Ausstrahlung. Richard Schirrmann, der Begründer des Jugendherbergswerkes und damit des größten Gastgebers der Welt, schrieb hier ins Gästebuch, dieses kleine Haus erfülle seinen "Traum von einer Jugendkulturstätte", wie sie ihm immer vorgeschwebt habe.
