Negative: We were quite disappointed with our stay at Hotel des Nordens. The hotel looks much better in the photos than it does in reality. Everything feels outdated and not well maintained; it’s clear that the property hasn’t been cared for with attention or love over the years. Our room, in particular, was far below expectations. The bathroom looked like something from the 1980s in a private home that hasn’t been renovated in decades: dents and holes in the tiles, rust on the radiator, chipped paint, and a toilet seat that should have been replaced long ago. Cleanliness was also an issue: the floor and bathroom fittings were not properly cleaned, and overall hygiene needs serious improvement. Considering that this is promoted as a hotel with a wellness area, I was surprised to learn that bathrobes are not provided in the room and must be rented for €5, just to be used in that area. The pool area itself also needs better maintenance; the water was rather cold, and the windows and surroundings could use a thorough cleaning. Another disappointment was the lack of service at reception. The hotel’s website says: "Our reception team is happy to help you plan your excursions," yet when we asked for assistance booking a boat tour to explore the fjord, we were told they couldn’t help with that. For €180 per night for two adults and one child, the value simply isn’t there. For this price, one would expect modern facilities, attention to detail, and a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, this stay felt more like stepping back in time; not in a charming, nostalgic way, but in a way that shows how much the hotel is in need of renovation and care. I hope the management will take this feedback as a genuine encouragement to renovate and improve because the hotel has great potential thanks to its location and spaciousness.
